Our History

Founded in 1992 by Jason McGill, J M Packaging started by supplying flexible packaging to the smoked salmon industry in the UK. From this, we have steadily grown into a global leader, setting new standards for quality, sustainability, and customer service.

1998
Moving Premises

After setting up the business in 1992 then moving premises in Malton in 1998, the business quickly grew, helped by strong relationships with our customers; many of which are still on the journey with us today.

J M Packaging was incorporated in 1998.

Packaging Innovation

From early on, JMP were leading the way in packaging innovation as we became first to market with a peelable pouch for smoked salmon in the UK, this was just the start of our innovation journey.

Flexible Retort Packaging
Flexible Retort Packaging

As technology in the packaging industry developed, retort food processing became more popular due to the extended shelf life and convenience it presented, one of the primary advantages of flexible retort packaging is its adaptability to diverse product categories, including ready-to-eat meals, microwavable rice, soups, sauces, pet foods, and more. Around the year 2000, JMP supplied our first retort pouch in the ready meal market. As the demand for this type of packaging grew so did JMP’s foothold in the retort pouch sector.

As business grew, JMP Commissioned the construction of a new, purpose built premises to which the company relocated to in 2013.

First BRC Certification
First BRC Certification

In 2015 JMP achieved our first BRC certification and continue to hold this at a AA standard to this day.

First To Market
First To Market

In March 2021, after many years of research and development with our customers, JMP was first to market, globally with a recycle ready retort pouch, launched under the brand Tiori in the microwavable rice and grains sector.
